What is the WooPride Sports Organization?
WooPride Sports is a Worcester-based non-profit organization dedicated to building community through inclusive, affirming, and accessible sports. Established with the LGBTQIA+ community in mind, WooPride Sports welcomes all participants, volunteers, and supporters regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or skill level.
Through recreational sports leagues, tournaments, and community centered programming,
WooPride Sports creates spaces where individuals can connect, thrive, and feel a sense of
belonging, both on and off the field.
I’ve never played sports before. What if I’m really bad?
We welcome players of all ability levels and we mean ALL LEVELS. Never played competitive sports before? No problem! Most members of the league begin with little or no competitive sports experience. Each team is put together with an intentional mix of abilities and experience, so you’ll always be with players at your level and others who can help you improve. All new players attend an orientation where we’ll teach you the game and our league rules. Your captain and assistant captain will also help teach you throughout the season and we also offer player development clinics if you’re interested in learning more and improving your skillset.
Who can play?
Everyone is welcome regardless of sexuality, gender identity, age, background, body type, experience level, or athletic ability. We value inclusivity over exclusivity. If you’re looking to have fun and be part of a supportive community, you belong here. We respect and celebrate every player’s identity and encourage self-expression both on and off the field.
Do I have to be Queer+/LGBTQIA+?
Not at all! Our league is proudly inclusive and open to everyone.
Do I have to be athletic?
Nope! The only requirement is a willingness to play and have fun. Every game has rules, and everyone brings unique strengths to the team. No one starts out perfect, give yourself the space to learn, grow, and enjoy the process.
What is the refund policy?
Players are ineligible for a refund once they complete registration. Please keep this in mind before fully committing for the season. There are no exceptions.
How long is a typical season?
A typical season is 8 weeks long. Some leagues vary from 6 weeks to 10 weeks. Leagues will have a regular season and a playoff season within the established league window. Generally, you will have one game per week. Some leagues may have more.
I’m joining the league with my significant other/best friend. Can we be on the same team?
Teams are formed by captains, who build their own rosters of up to the player max based on the league. If you and your significant other or friend would like to play together, we encourage you to coordinate with a captain before registering to ensure there is space on their team.
If you register as a free agent and request a specific team that already has a full roster, you will need to reach out directly to that team’s captain to ask about joining. Otherwise, free agents will be placed on teams that are in need of players.
While we can’t guarantee placement on a specific team, our league is all about building community, meeting new people, and expanding your circle. And who knows, a little friendly competition against someone you know can make the season even more fun!
Will I make new friends?
Absolutely! Beyond the great experience you’ll have competing with your own team, we host weekly social events designed to help you connect with other league members in relaxed, fun settings. We also organize additional activities throughout the season to make sure your experience goes far beyond the field. It’s about community, connection, and creating lasting friendships, not just the game itself.
